Marie
Lamba was one of the best young
adult authors we have ever hosted at our
library...I would highly recommend inviting
Marie to your school, library, or book-
store!

To me, one of the best
things about being an author is connecting with readers. That's why I so enjoy
meeting and talking with 'tweens and teens and readers of all ages!
If you would like me to visit your school, library or bookstore, please email at
marielamba@hotmail.com, include
"author visit" on the message line, and then we can discuss
availability and cost. All presentations include readings from my novel,
interactive discussions, humorous anecdotes, and an insider's glimpse into the
not-so-glamorous life of a professional author.
Here are some of the talks I can present (plus I'm open to tailoring a
discussion to meet the needs of your group):
If
I Can Do It, YOU Can (Or, Why Failure is a Good Thing)
Dreaming big, yet
feeling like you're no one special? Well, join the club! Even though I knew I
wanted to be a writer at age 10, I wasn't good enough for the school paper,
wrote tons of junk, and never got a thing published all through high school and
college. And I learned so much from every failure. In this inspiring talk about
inner-strength and determination, I'll show kids why they must be patient with
their dreams, whatever they are, and never EVER give up. Talk includes show and
tell of my impressive stack of horrid rejections.
What
I Meant/What YOU Mean (Finding Your Voice)
My agent and my editor have both told me that they can fix plot and punctuation,
and can even repair dull characters in a manuscript, but the one thing they
cannot do is give a writer "voice." What is this all-important thing
they call voice? And why have so many people lost theirs? Sharing my own wacky
and mortifying journey from individualistic toddler, to wanna-be teen conformist
(yikes!), and finally to published author, I'll challenge everyone to examine
their past, and to chart a course toward expressing their true selves in the
future.
Write
Terrors
Scared? Good! Dare to explore your fears and see how they can shape great
stories. Through examples and readings, find out how fear in fiction keeps
readers turning pages, and how some of our worst fears can actually result in
some extremely funny scenes. I'll also talk about what fears have shaped my own
stories, and share what professional writers fear most!
Marie had such a nice manner with the teens. She was funny and
engaging and she
was simply, herself... She told of her struggles
in breaking into
the publishing world with a positive message for
the kids: don't give up!...She
also treated the teens like they
were adults and in doing so, she let them into
her world... We
thoroughly enjoyed her presentation and hope to
invite her again.

Everyone really enjoyed her reading...Ms. Lamba was warm and
witty and spoke
candidly of her struggles to become a published
writer. She was an inspiring
presence in our library on that
Tuesday night and highly recommended!
